The Overlook Guest Lodge (Under Construction)

Guest lodge on a large ranch in central Texas. The Lodge sits on the edge of a steep bluff overlooking a bend in the San Saba River, with the river valley stretching out to the horizon. The design of, and materials used for, the Lodge is a blend of historic Texas Hill Country structures and historic National Park lodge architecture. Construction is currently underway.

The ground floor reception room opens to a broad stone patio that cantilevers over the edge of the bluff and overlooks a bend of the San Saba River. The fireplace design is based on the fireplace in the Hermit's Rest at Grand Canyon National Park.

A great deal of the structure throughout the building is timber frame. This is a 3D model that shows the extent, from beams and columns to the triangular brackets that support the roof overhangs.

The second floor Game Room features a hand-painted mural showing a scene on the ranch of cattle crossing an arroyo. The painting is in the style of Depression-Era WPA (Works Progress Admistration) murals in post offices by artists such as Thomas Hart Benton.
